Young's Floor Covering overcomes 8-1 deficit in thriller

Tuesday, August 9, the Coed Softball league hosted their last games of the regular season as Young's Floor Covering fought back from a seven run deficit to take down Malta Recreation (Rec) 15-12, while The Hitchin Post Pounders (formerly known as Anderson –Yeadon) earn a first round bye by defeating the R&G Feeders and finishing an undefeated season.

"It was nine to three going into the seventh inning,"Hitchin Post captain Shane Anderson said after the game. "They scored four runs in the seventh to make it close."

The breakdown in defense occurred after the R & G bats heated up with some solid hits and base running.

Anderson mentioned a couple of key players that night.

"Wyatt Lien drove in a few runs tonight," Anderson said. "The girls played well. Avery Sorenson came in and subbed for us. She did a good job in right field."

The team was without a few of their normal players including shortstop Dean Yeadon, Ella Yeadon and Andrea Lien. Their catcher Karey Bishop was fighting through a broken toe.

"We are a little banged up," Anderson said.

The team was set to play the winner of the first playoff game which featured R & G and Malta Rec.

In Tuesday's other game, Jesse Young and his team saw themselves on the wrong end of a 8-1 first inning but fought back to win 15-12, scoring six runs in the top of the seventh.

"We had a bad first couple of inning but we came back," Young said. "It must've been the pitching."

Like the Pounders, Young's was also short-handed and brought in a few substitute players.

"We had a lot of people missing and our subs stepped it up big time," Young said. "Nellie Ereaux, Kara Tangedal and Jake Handley and Becca Spencer. Every one of our girls came to play. They had a couple of key base hits to bring some runs in and that's what I like to see."

Young's was set to play Thompson-Judd in the opening round of playoffs last Monday.

"We got creamed the first time and we are looking for a little revenge," Young said.
