Locals finish strong at P.C. Fair AMX races

The Dodson AMX Speedway hosted its first race of the 2016 season at the Phillips County Fair on Saturday, August 6. There were 10 super stock and 12 stock drivers present.

Plenty of local drivers were present in the winner’s circle including Malta’s Gerome Lamb who won the Stock A Main event, David Jaynes also from Malta who took second in the Stock B Main and Saco’s Matt Suddeth who took third in the Stock A Main. Malta’s Frank Kindle and Dodson’s Brett Jaynes tied for third in the Super Stock Main A, while Malta’s Wes Lundstrom took third in the Super Stock Main B race.

In his third year of racing, Lamb drove his 1986 Cutlass Supreme, the same car he began with. This time was different as he won the first trophy of his racing career. Last year he won his heat but never a trophy.

“I was excited because I finally won,” Lamb said. “The car ran good and I was really happy about that.”

Lamb didn’t make any changes to his car, though he has to rewire his car after burning up wires in AMX races in Havre a few weeks ago.

Lamb followed the lead car, Saco’s Matt Suddeth, who eventually spun out of control. His lead was endangered the rest of the race by either Flint Schaaf of Malta or Great Fall’s Dustin McKinney, but Lamb was able to shake his opponent with some skillful driving.

“Every corner I could see his front bumper so I just starting taking his line and cutting him off every time,” Lamb said.

Lamb’s car was also in the Powderpuff race, in which Malta’s Adrianna Bibeau was the winner. His brother Jalen Lamb was runner up in the Pitman race with the car.

“I just asked Adrianna if she wanted to drive it,” Lamb said. “She won by about five or six car lengths which is more than I won by.”

Other winners included Turner’s Keith Cowan who won the Stock B Main race, Lewistown’s Shane Martin who won the Super Stock A Main, Chinook’s Mike Powell who took first in the Super Stock B Main, Malta’s Adrianna Bibeau who won the Powderpuff race and Dodson’s Robert Jaynes who took the Pitman Race.

Stock B Main: 1st Keith Cowan (#04) Turner, 2nd David Jaynes (#199) Malta, 3rd Robert Kindle (#354) Malta.

Super Stock A Main: 1st Shane Martin (#5) Lewistown, 2nd Seth Hamilton (#53) Havre, 3rd tie Frank Kindle (#472) Malta and Brett Jaynes (#258) Dodson.

Super Stock B Main: 1st Mike Powell (#76E) Chinook, 2nd Duke Thomas (#777) Havre, 3rd Wes Lundstrom (#414E) Malta.

Powderpuff: 1st Adrianna Bibeau in Gerome's car (#74), other drivers were Rae Bibeau (#23), Marley Manoukian (#354)and Maria Brown (#116).

Pitman: 1st Rob Jaynes in David's car (#199).

Hard Luck: Tony Bibeau (#140) Havre.
