One Nation, Under God
I don’t know how the start of football season could be so exhilarating and heart-breaking at the same time. It’s the life of a Bears fan I suppose.
The only end zone my team sniffed was either when our defensive backs got torched for a touchdown pass or when our quarterback was sacked for a safety. It was bad.
While the preseason isn’t a complete measuring stick of a football team, it was depressing seeing every other team playing last Thursday score touchdowns and field goals, while the Bears failed to muster one single point.
Upon second glance at the game there were several signs that things may not be as bad as they seem.
First off, we were playing the current Super Bowl Champion Denver Broncos, who already have a winning system.
With all of the turnover Chicago has had in the last year or so, they seem like they are not as bad off as the 22-0 score may indicate.
Secondly, it is a preseason game, which is really a formality and teams aren’t competing for the playoffs, they are seeing who will make the cut from 90 players to 53 before the regular season kicks off.
I for one am rooting for Havre’s Marc Mariani as he is up against some pretty stout competition as far as the Bears wide receivers go.
There are three more preseason games left for NFL teams and I think I would reach a point of “freaking out” only if the Bears fail to score in the next two games.
I haven’t had cable television in about four years, so having satellite in time for the 2016 season is a blessing. I plan on watching as much Bears football as I can regardless of the countless beat downs I may have to endure.
In other news, I have been trying to get rid of the thousands upon thousands of photos from last school year and I have stumbled upon some pictures and videos of PJ. It’s just crazy how quick he is growing up.
I’m still not ready for school to start, as I’m sure many of our young ones can agree, but here goes nothing!
