Malta
§ Local romance novelist Barbara Heinlein (who writes her New York Times Best Sellers under nom de plume B.J. Daniels) was named to the Romance Writers of America Honor Roll, joining a list of some 300-plus romance novelist including Nora Roberts and Debbie Macomber. Her newest novel, Into Dust, is on sale now.
§ Jory Schipman reported that a large tree blew over at Hillcrest Park, nearly hitting a swing set at the playground. Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident as it most likely took place during the p.m. hours.
§ Registration for Boys & Girls Club of the Hi-Line Malta Extension begins on Thursday, August 18 and will continue through the school year with registration commencing in May of 2017. Interested parents need to fill out the School Year Membership form, pay the $35 dues and sign the Field Trip Permission Slip. For more information call 654-2378.
§ Belated wedding congratulations to Malta’s Delmar Henry and Lori (Evans) Henry who were wed in late July.
§ Greg Skiff is now selling Gun Raffle Tickets for the Malta Athletic Club in which 30 guns will be raffled off in 30 days starting in September. All proceeds go to Malta youth athletics. Contact Greg for more information (and wish me luck.)
§ The City of Malta reports that construction on 8th Street will be ready before schools starts and arrangements have been made with the school for buses.
Dodson
§ Dodson’s Megan Martin made her professional boxing debut against Wamnee Ereaux at the Fort Belknap Casino in Harlem last Thursday. I will update the results of this fight when I can and look for a feature story on Megan and her boxing aspirations at some point in the PCN.
Saco
§ Saco’s Amber Erickson, and family, recently headed west to Mineral County to visit family.
§ The 53rd Annual Saco Fun Days will be held September 2 through 4 this year and will include horse shoes, a poker run, minnow racing, the parade and food, food, food. For more information on Fun Days, find the Saco Chamber of Commerce on Facebook.
