One Nation, Under God
Last year the Co-Ed softball league was made to gauge the interest of those around town that were interested in starting a softball league.
Though I wasn’t in the group photo, I played for two of the four weeks.
Immediately I was put in the outfield as a floater. That didn’t go so well and I found out really quick that I’m out of shape.
This season I’m still tipping the scale in the high 200s. Lucky for me I wasn’t put in the outfield in my first game of the season.
This year I was thrown onto the pitcher’s mound without having thrown an underhand pitch in my life. I tried and ended up walking my first batter. After that fail, I was sent to second base.
Second base wasn’t bad except I’ve only played second base in kickball during my grade school years.
I’m proud to admit that I nearly had a double play but I’m ashamed to say I almost ran a lady over to attempt the play.
I also stopped a grounder with my calf muscle because I missed it with my glove. And though it wasn’t a proud moment because I allowed a base hit, I am proud to say that I stopped runners on their bases and in that instance no one scored.
I have also noticed that I wasn’t out of wind every inning like I was last year.
This year’s Fair was pretty awesome and I was even able to see some of it with my beautiful wife and son.
I have to admit PJ wasn’t in the greatest of moods. He was so sleepy by the time we got there, he looked like someone kicked his puppy.
Naturally he would perk up anytime someone offered him something to eat. Like father, like son.
I can only imagine what he was thinking looking at the 4-H animals. They are definitely smaller in children’s books and quieter.
I didn’t have the heart to explain where those animals were going after the fair. All I know is I had a craving for a double bacon cheeseburger all weekend. Thank goodness for the Boy Scout Heart Attack Burger.
