One Nation, Under God
It was a “gem” of a day Friday, July 10 at the PC Museum.
Amateur rock hounds Mitch and Annie Blatter shared their rock, gem, and mineral collection with Phillips County. Hearing of their experiences and seeing the many varieties of rocks I was ready to take to the field and see what I could discover.
Historically Montana has long been associated with rocks and minerals. The Montana motto “Oro y Plata” is an indication of the wealth found within our boundaries. To further emphasize our rich mineral and ore deposits Montana is also known as “The Treasure State.” Along with a state bird, a state tree, and a state flower Montana also has a state “gem”. The Montana Agate and Montana sapphire share the title of our state gem. Every corner of Montana is known for a particular rock or gem.
If you are ready to strap on your hiking boots stop in and check out the “Gem & Rock Map” of Montana available at the PC Museum. Our hours are Monday through Saturday 10-5.
