Closing of old trails

There is much trouble being caused all over the county by the fencing of the old trails and the changing of the road to section lines. In some cases this is being done without the sanction of the County Commissioners. The law requires that the new road be put in as good condition as the old before change is made, but this is ignored to some extent so that the new road in many cases is not satisfactory to the traveling public.

Since the big rain on Monday night, the air has been somewhat cooler and it is a great relief from the excessive hear of the first of the month.

The Fifth Avenue Meat Market will open next Monday under the management of L.H. Ugland with James Johnson as head meat cutter. Mr. Johnson has been with the Arcade for the past few years and is one of the best shop men in the country. The new market will also handle a full line of vegetables and fruit.

How about a canning factory for Malta?

Recently suggested at a Malta Commercial Club director's meeting as a survey to determine the practicability of establishing a canning factory in this vicinity. This is a proposal which will require considerable study and, of course, cannot be accomplished in a minute or even a few months; but the News believes it is a matter worthy of attention at the first favorable opportunity and hopes club officials follow the suggestion through.
