One Nation, Under God
The Malta Mustangs wrestling team had a pretty solid season sending several wrestlers to the 2016 State B Tournament in Billings, one of Montana's busiest cities. On June 12, five Malta grapplers graced one of Florida's busiest cities, Orlando for the National Duals with Team Montana at the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Disney World.
Those wrestlers were Trey Simanton, Travis Epperson, Ceaton Mears, Kolter Schipman and Callan Mears.
"Despite not having a full squad, the team won the majority of head to head matches," Mustang Head Coach Ryan LaBrie said.
Simanton, who has been a state placer in his first two seasons with Malta, took second place in his weight class and AAU All-American status with only one loss that week.
Schipman and Ca. Mears both received third place medals at the meet posting only three losses.
Malta boasted a majority of Team Montana, providing five of the thirteen grapplers on the team.
The team lost one wrestler to injury early in the meet and despite being a man down the team finished ninth in pool wrestling and seventh in the Silver Bracket.
Coach LaBrie was joined by Coach Guy Melby. The duo was also joined by Sidney's Jordan Steven and Ty Graves.
The coaches and team gathered one week ahead of Nationals to train in Sidney at the Montana Eagle Wrestling Camp.
Other coaches in attendance were Brandon Eggum assistant coach of the University of Minnesota's wrestling team. Eggum brought Gresh Jones, a former Sidney High wrestler and Tommy Thorn who are wrestlers under his program. Coach Adam Aho from The University of Mary was also in attendance.
