One Nation, Under God
The Wine and Dino event this year will fall on June 17. The event is in conjunction with the Phillips County Museum. There are many exciting things happening this evening. The festivities start at 5:30 p.m. and there will be a new display unveiled at 7 p.m.
Paleontologist Cary Woodruff is hoping for a huge turnout and appreciates all the support he is receiving from the community.
Woodruff is quite the accomplished paleontologist, a grad student of Montana State University having worked with the Museum of the Rockies previously, and taking part in the dig of the smallest Camarasaurus ever found. A camarasaurus, commonly known as the long-neck dinosaur, is a feature display in our station and is the first discovered in Montana. It just so happens that the second is the smallest one Woodruff uncovered near Livingston. "As far as dinosaurs go, Eastern Montana definitely put us on the map," shared Woodruff. The community is encouraged to take advantage of Woodruff's presence and expansive knowledge in the field of paleontology. "The job of a museum is education, it is my job to provide the visitors with the newest information available."
Information will definitely be expanded as Woodruff plans to update a vast majority of the displays at the museum this summer. He will also be participating in a three week dig this summer led by Two Medicine Dinosaur Museum Center, in Bynum. The dig is open for all volunteers. "If you really want to get out in the field and learn about dinosaur excavation, this is the event for you," Woodruff said.
The Wine and Dino event will be a great opportunity to learn something new, and take a load off. Including free admission to both buildings, they hope to get as many people as they can. "My goal is to get people that drive by twice a day without ever being in either building, involved and intrigued." The event will be supplied food from Ray J's Barbecue available for $5 a plate.
