One Nation, Under God

What do you mean no HD?

I wasn’t going to do it. I really wasn’t going to. But I need to vent.

I have lived about a dozen years of my life without cable or satellite television. The last four years I’ve lived here, my wife and I have only had broadcast TV. The five or six channels that we do get have been good to us but we’ve decided it is time for a change.

So we bit the bullet and have pursued the various companies for a more enhanced television experience, which will bring us the glorious channels of ESPN, NFL Network, Food Network, AMC, TNT, TBS and those “other channels” that my loving wife likes.

I found out last Tuesday that when a cable company says that I have an appointment from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., that it could mean later that evening.

Typically when someone makes an appointment that appointment should be punctual. If I didn’t show up to a basketball game scheduled for 7 p.m., they are not going to wait until I show up to start.

If I made an appointment at 2:30 p.m. and showed up at 5:30 p.m. without notice I’m not sure the person I set up an interview with would even care to do the story.

So that happened.

Then after everything was said and done, I found out that our area doesn’t get beautiful, crisp, in your face high definition (HD) channels…

Uh, why do I have a beautiful HD television, with this HD-DVR receiver that I’m paying extra for?

Better yet, why doesn’t our area have HD channels? At the very least our broadcast television had HD programming.

Cable in more populated areas has had HD for over a decade. Why did our area get left out?

I turn on the cable receiver that says HD only to see lifeless, low quality TV shows. For us to be willing to pay close to $100 a month, the quality has to be better than this.

Those who have cable, I won’t say who I’ve dealt with but I can say that they assured me that soon there will be HD programming.

When they do get HD programming, I might be back. But for now, I’m out.
