Notice

The question of the boxing contest proposition has come up to us, The Malta Enterprise and the Malta Call publishers, in a way that we deem it unwise to make any comment whatsoever on the grounds that it is asking us to draw the line on a topic upon which our constituents, namely the residents of Malta, have proven themselves to be divided upon.

We have been asked to publish articles on both sides which if space were bought and paid for, we would be obliged to publish, but at this time we deem it advisable to refuse all contributions, and refrain from any comment whatsoever on the subject. This is not done with any malice, coercion, or intent to suppress news, but with a devotion to our commercial, business and for the best interest of our newspapers which we are operating ourselves.

Attempted burglary at Buttrey Foods

Attempted burglary at Buttrey Foods failed to materialize Sunday morning when city police arrived at the scene of the crime before the intruders could finish the job. City police Jim Moore and Howard Dopp were called by a neighbor who had gotten up for a drink and heard a hammering noise.

Several men, believed to be four, gained entrance to Pray Motors by picking the lock of the rear door and took an acetylene tank to work with their own cutting torch. Then they gained entrance to the Malta Bakery by picking the lock of the back door and were trying to chip their way into Buttrey Foods. Upon arrival of the city police, the men broke and ran leaving their tools, along with the tank taken from Pray Motors, in Hurley Wilson's yard. Mrs. Wilson reported to the police that she had heard the noise and saw three of the men running through their yard.

Landusky School may end up on the Market

Unless there's some change during the summer, it looks as though the elementary school in Landusky will be closing its doors.

School District Clerk Ruth Mitchell said the school might be closing for lack of students.

The last two Mitchell families utilizing the recently constructed school/community center are moving to town and there are no other children, at this time, who would be using the school.

The Landusky School District Board of Trustees has three years to decide whether to try to attract new students or to "abandon" the property.
