Long relay team retains divisional crown, Bishop takes second in javelin
The Malta Mustangs track team took seventh at the rainy North/East B Divisional at Memorial Stadium in Great Falls last Saturday. The team will have eight athletes at this week's State B Track Meet in Bozeman which starts tomorrow.
Malta scored 33.5 points in the event. Glasgow won the meet with 118.5 points. Fairfield was second with 105.5 and Cut Bank took third with 70.
The long relay team retained their divisional crown. The team consisting of Jase Galt, Tyson Carney, Ostin and Allen Williamson had a time of 3:39.47, a time that was seven seconds faster than last year's meet.
"The Mustangs are competing very well," Coach Schye said. "We had a great showing in javelin, shot and our short relay, so we're happy with how everything is going. For the most part everything is going right on schedule."
Jace Bishop took second in the javelin with a new best of 175-1. He nearly won the event but Glasgow Benji Phillips caught Bishop on his last throw of the finals with a throw of 175-2.
Bishop also placed fifth in high jump after clearing 5-2.
Tyson Carney took third in javelin with a throw of 167-9.
Welch took sixth in the 400 with a time of 54.98.
Jase Galt took sixth in shot put after posting a throw of 39-10.
The short relay team consisting of Galt, Carney, Ostin Welch and Allen Williamson took fifth with a time of 46.69
Carney just missed placing in the 400 with a time of 55.16 that earned him seventh place.
Jalen Lamb had a throw of 39-8 ½ in shot put but placed seventh in the event.
Andres Lopez took ninth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 20.51. Tel Jenson took tenth in the 110 hurdles with a time of 23.91.
Devon Raybon took tenth in long jump after posting a jump of 16-4 ¼.
Lopez also took twelfth in shot put with a throw of 33-11 ½.
