One Nation, Under God
Throughout the country Color Runs have raised money for various events while also giving participants a chance to have a little fun in the process; by getting blasted with neon
“Malta Trails has been doing runs for seven years since they first started,” Juli Snedigar said. “They always did the Coffee Cup run in the past. Everyone enjoyed that but they wanted to do something a little more fun for the kids, so they came up with the idea of doing a color run.”
For some, this will not be their first color run and while Malta Trails is putting the event on, the proceeds will go to Malta Parks and Recreation.
The funds will be raised solely through the event’s entry fee.
So who gets to throw the various neon colors at runners?
“We have different groups that are going to come in,” Snedigar said. “Thrivent is donating to the purchase of the colors and they’re also going to have to man a station and throw color. We have other non profits that will come to help.”
All three banks, First State Bank, First Security and Independence have all agreed to sponsor a color station for the event.
“We’re going to have four colors for sure,” Snedigar said. “It might be more than that. We’re going to do blue and red for sure, possibly yellow and hot pink.”
As for what the powder substance is, Snedigar confirmed it’s a corn starch based.
The event’s five mile run starts at 8:30 a.m., while the three mile will start shortly after followed by the one mile run.
“We are also doing a one mile just for kids at 9:30,” Snedigar said.
The event will not be timed and participants can run or walk.
Runners are warned to wear white if they want color thrown at them and any other color if they just wish to participate with no color thrown.
“Wear anything but white and the people won’t throw color at you,” Snedigar said.
Snedigar noted that all of the colors will be thrown within the first mile.
“It’s easier for the kids,” she said. “All of the colors will be on the M trail.”
Malta Trails hopes to wrap up the event before the Car Show that starts at 10 a.m. that day.
As for why they would do the event that day, Snedigar said, “With everything going on, the car show and the reunion, we just wanted to make sure that there were enough things going on for everybody to do.”
Malta Trails is asking all volunteers to meet at the trail head to the M Trail (by the city shop) before 8:00 AM on race day. All runners will start at the trail head as well. Parking will be marked.
