Whitewater's Trace Simonson was equally impressive for the boy's track team. He placed first in three out of five events and is determined to accomplish his goal of setting new personal records and qualifying for state. Simonson marked a throw of 129-3 in discus, earning first place. He also placed first in javelin with a throw of 147-2, as well as the Triple Jump with a mark of 38-1 1/2. "I'd like to PR (personal record) in my throwing events, and make it to state in all of my events." Trace said, when asked about his performance and goals for divisionals.
Simonson put together an impressive performance as the leading scorer for the Whitewater team, with Trey Simanton contributing points as well. Simanton placed third in the 110M Hurdles with a time of 17.66 and in the 300M Hurdles with a time of 44.38. Simanton also placed fourth in the long jump. Senior Kayleigh Cummings placed first in the shot put with an impressive throw of 32-6.
"I'm happy with my performance today," Cummings said about her performance shortly after winning the shot put event. "I tied my PR in shot-put. My goals for next week are to PR and make it to the state meet."
Dodson's David Jaynes put the only points on the board for the Coyotes. Jaynes threw a 35-3 1/4 in the shot put, impressive enough to capture sixth place, qualifying him for the Eastern C.
While the Dodson track team is lacking the personnel to compete with the bigger C schools across the state, they do not lack heart as all athletes left it all on the field last weekend.
