Music at the Bison

The music furnished for the Woman's Club dance at the Bison Monday evening was of the best. The regular Malta Orchestra was assisted by Prof. Bennett with his clarinet and Arthur Cavanaugh with trap drums. This is the first time Mr. Cavanaugh has played in public but he made good nevertheless. The dance was a decided success.

Local

All first-class mail coming into the United States from Canada is opened and passed on by the authorities across the line. A few days ago, a party here received a letter from his brother in Canada and about one-half of it was blotted out so as to be unreadable.

This morning about 7:30 the house on the Best Ranch, two miles or so south of town, was entirely destroyed by fire. The origin of the blaze is not known. We understand the loss is partly covered by insurance.

--

In the destruction of the Mercer barn this week by fire we have another evidence of what the small boy will do if left alone with a box of matches. The little fellow did not know what he was doing, but parents should use care in what their children play with and with whom they play.

City to enjoy open air concert

The City Council and the Board of School District No. 14 have decided to hire Robert Scriver, high school band director, to direct the city band in a series of weekly concerts this summer. Many years ago the city had a band which gave concerts from a stand in the park on the north side of Front Street. Because of the great interest shown by this community in wanting to revive summer band concerts it was decided to form a band this summer with the present high school band forming the nucleus of the organization.

A warm feeling

Lots of folks will be getting that warm feeling thanks to the women of the Malta Lutheran Church who have once again been busy making quilts. The women of the church usually work a couple of days a week during January, February and March. A number of women cut, sew and put together quilts. Some of the quilts are sent to Lutheran World Relief in Minneapolis where they are sent on to many parts of the world. Other are also given to places where natural disasters have occurred in the US. Locally, many quilts are given to families in need or who have lost their homes to fire.
