Monday morning first grade teacher, Cindy Christman of the elementary staff at Malta Schools was recognized as the selected VFW State of Montana Elementary School Teacher of the Year.
Mrs. Christman was first the local VFW candidate, and her application was then selected as the District teacher and word was received recently that she was also the state level winner. Her application was submitted by the local Buster Deo Post 4067 VFW Auxiliary.
In a similar assembly Monday afternoon, Shyla Clausen of Malta Middle School was presented with her certificates for her having been the choice at local, district and state level as the VFWL State of Montana Middle School Teacher of the Year.
Both teachers are active in the teachings beyond text book, including continuing to include patriotism and Americanism in their teachings. Likewise, both are accomplished teachers, having years of experience in the field of education.
Local VFW and American Legion members as well as Auxiliary members of both groups were in attendance.
Mrs. Christman and Mrs. Clausen each received cash awards for their efforts, from the local, district and state organizations. Each was also presented with a floral arrangement from the VFW Auxiliary.
Rodney Karst, teacher at Glasgow, Mont., was selected as the High School Teacher of the Year. This is the first time the District 5 VFW was home to all three category selections.
The national decisions will be announced at the end of the month. At national level both the teacher and the school receive a monetary award.
