One Nation, Under God
March 25 through April 8
Please be advised the Phillips Co Sheriff’s Office is no longer doing GVW Term permits. These are the yearly permits for the over-width/height/weight that most semi trucks and trailers need.
You can access these permits by going to http://www.mdt.mt.gov, then go to Doing Business-Commercial Motor Carriers-Permitting. Or you can call 406-444-7262, with questions. Our office will still be doing the 3 day trip permits.
Check out our website: http://www.phillipscountysheriff.org and our Facebook page, Phillips County Sheriff’s Office. Our Facebook page does give reports of scams and other important information as needed to get to the public.
Please remember to file a new burn permit for the 2016 year. If you plan on doing any burning in 2016, please file one BEFORE you start to burn. These permits are good for all of 2016 and you only have to file one a year, not every time you burn. All 2015 permits will no longer be valid after December 31, 2015. Thank you!
On July 11, 2015 a Smith and Wesson revolver was turned in to the Sheriff’s Office. It was found lying on a road near Malta. It appears the gun bounced down the road and sustained some damage but it still appears to be functional. If you have lost a revolver or know of someone missing one, please contact Deputy Jerry Lytle at the Phillips County Sheriff’s Office to claim it.
The revolver was in a brown leather holster when it was found. You will need to describe the caliber of the revolver, location it was found, and other distinguishing characteristics in order to claim the revolver. If not claimed, it will be considered abandoned and will be sold at a Sheriff’s sale at a later date.

We have been receiving calls reporting telephone calls with people asking for personal information, bank account information and needing to send money to relatives or claiming to be from the IRS.
These phone calls are scams, if it seems suspicious DO NOT GIVE any information to the caller. Ask for a call back phone number and call them back to see if it is who they are claiming to be. The IRS does not contact people via telephone.
Always remember the key things regarding scams:
1. If you didn't enter, you didn't win
2. If you have a lawsuit or other legal issues pending you will get notification via certified mail or served to you by an official, whether it is a law enforcement officer or a civil process server
If you feel you have been a victim of a scam please follow the link below to the Office of Consumer Protection. https://dojmt.gov/consumer/consumer-complaints/
