Electric Light Company may suspend operations
It is rumored that the electric light plant will close down the first of the month unless different arrangements can be made. The people of Malta will greatly miss the electric lights in their homes and businesses. The reason for the proposed shutdown is the high price of fuel and the lack of support. In the early evening the plant has a good load, but after 10 or 11 o'clock, there is little doing. The City refuses to give the light company a franchise and the company under the conditions do not care to invest more money in machinery. A franchise granted to the light company with the privilege of the City taking over the fixtures at the end of five years would not work a hardship on anyone.
Judge Tattan gives orders for survey
Hon. Jno. W. Tattan, judge of the 12th Judicial District, has instructed County Surveyor Middleton to make a survey of the section of county along the Missouri River and ascertain whether the Kipp place, where the murder of Bud Secrest occurred last January, is in Blaine or Phillips County. Following the arrest of Thos. B. O'Riley, Jr., on the charge of murder, Phillips County authorities declare the Kipp place to be in Blaine County and accordingly Sheriff Shaw brought O'Riley to Chinook, and he is now in the Blaine County jail awaiting trial. Blaine County authorities are also inclined to that the Kipp place is in this county.

Local lanes record first 300 game
For the first time ever, it is believed, a perfect game was bowled this past Saturday night at the Mustang Lanes.
Dave Riggins, of Glasgow, rolled 12 straight strikes on alleys one and two. Riggins was bowling in the Mustang Lanes mixed doubles no-tap bowling tournament when he did it. The tourney is sanctioned, so it apparently does not go on record as a perfect game. However, even though it was a no-tap tourney, Riggin did not leave any pins standing.

Commission takes lead in forming committee to create organization to run Malta Food Bank
Phillips County Commissioners have taken the lead in attempting to organize some kind of local non-profit group to follow in the footsteps of the former Malta Food Bank Director Jerry Hannon.
For 21 years, Hannon, who died March 3, kept the local food bank operating by sheer force of will.
The Food Bank isn't a county function, according to commissioners, but the county has donated space in the old Carnegie Library building, paid utilities and a phone bill and provided custodial service.
County Commission Chair Troy Blunt assured about 30 former Food Bank volunteers who had worked with Hannon and other interested citizens that "to my knowledge nothing has been said about eliminating the food bank."
"I don't see any reason we can't continue," he added. "We just need to complete the structure."
