One Nation, Under God
CattleWomen
The Phillips County CattleWomen were part of the activities at the Boys and Girls Club of the Hi Line – Malta Extension on March 25. CattleWomen members, Patti Webb and Taylor French, helped the youth learn about beef by hosting two different activities. For the younger youth, they played BEEFO. A beef version of bingo using the by-products from beef. Youth learned about what parts of the cow are used to produce footballs, chewing gum, insulin, china and car wax. Youth used another by-product for marking their cards, miniature marshmallows. The other activity youth were involved in was the round up. Youth were taught about the role of cowboys on a ranch and the role of branding. Youth learned about different brands and how to read them, they divided into teams, created their own brand and then branded their cattle (Balloons). Like some ranchers, fences can get holes in them and cattle can become mixed. Youth had to round up their cattle using only their feet but had to be careful because if a balloon popped that means one of your cows died. Youth enjoyed the day and learning about taking care of and what beef give us.
Malta Dirt Daubers
Malta Dirt Daubers recently spent an afternoon at the Boys and Girls
Club helping with a special spring project. Malta Kiwanis members also helped the children plant marigold seeds in small flower pots. The children also made decorations for St. Patrick’s Day.
