Mavericks drop game to Spartans

The North Country Mavericks lost their only game to the Scobey-Opheim Spartans 70-52 last Friday night in Scobey. The team will face Lustre Christian who they defeated 46-40 in January. With both teams at 5-4 this meeting will determine who takes second in the conference and a more favorable matchup in the 3C district tournament on February 18 in Malta.

The team was led by Trace Simonson who scored 14 points. Layne Engel scored 12 points. Cache Younkin and Logan McColly had six points. Wrangler Jones had five points. Chris DePuydt had four points. John McColly had three points. Channing Mavencamp had two points.

The team outscored Scobey 13-12 in the first quarter, but they would give up the lead in the second quarter, scoring 16 points while giving up 22. The halftime score was 34-29.

Scobey would outscore the Mavericks in the final two quarters as well to lock up the win. The JV team lost 64-25.
