One Nation, Under God
Our January Member’s meeting was packed with over 20 of our local businesses represented! We took time to recap what the Chamber accomplished in 2015, and then started looking ahead to 2016. We have several exciting programs that we hope to share with all of you, in the near future.
Our speakers for this month’s meeting were Superintendent Kris Kuehn and Principal Scott King from the Malta School District. They discussed the upcoming basketball tournaments. Malta will host the District 3C Combined Girls and Boys Tournament, Feb 18-20 and the Northern B Boys Divisional Tournament, Feb 25-27. The Chamber traditionally provides volunteers for tournaments in the form of ticket takers, blue vest volunteers and staffs a hospitality room. If you would like to volunteer at either of these tournaments, we would be very appreciative. As Mr. King said at the meeting, he continually gets positive feedback on the level of volunteerism that happens at Malta. At the tournaments, we get to provide a service back to our community, and get to enjoy some amazing high school basketball too! Please contact the Chamber to volunteer.
As you may have seen, Malta Chamber/City of Malta was awarded a $2500 grant from Triangle Communications in their Connected Community Challenge. We met this past Monday with Anne Boothe to discuss a Broadband Action Plan, and how we can use broadband to advance the economic development and strength of our community. If you are interested in joining this committee and working with these grant funds, please contact the Chamber officer at 654-1776 or [email protected]
Business Tip of the Week
In a previous article we talked about getting distracted by Shiny Objects at work. Another distraction to watch out for is a Fire Alarm! Not literal alarms mind you, but those out of left field and drop everything tasks. This is the task that will not just derail you for a few minutes, but potentially for the whole day or longer. How do you deal with a Fire Alarm? Try to handle it as soon as, and as efficiently as possible. Look at the situation and determine if there is really a fire or a false alarm. See if there are others who may be able to help, and let you focus back on your priorities. If you are the one who has to handle it, adjust your other priorities, and set realistic but adjusted expectations for when you can get back on track.
