One Nation, Under God
In December of last year, the National Retail Federation (NRF) – the world’s largest retail trade association – declared the U.S. economy was headed into the right direction as the holiday season neared. According to an anonymous polling of Malta Merchants last week by the Phillips County News, NRF seemed to know what they were talking about.
A total of 10 different Malta stores owners were asked asked to answer the question “for the 2015 holiday shopping season were sales: below average, above average, good, really good or best year ever.”
Of the 10 business surveyed, none stated the 2015 holiday season was below average, four stated that sales were really good and three picked the best year ever answer (one retailer said sales where somewhere between really good and best year ever.)
One Malta Merchant told the PCN it was hard to tell exactly how good only the holiday season was by itself, but added that sales for the entire year of 2015 were very good. At the bottom of the anonymous survey, a space was provided for additional comments and two store owners responded, one claiming, “My sales rocked!” and the other stated they had more people in their establishment and a better year in sales.
Last week in the PCN, it was reported that Christmas Scrip loans for the areas three banks were up for the first time in three years.
