Dodson girls fall against Nashua

The Dodson Lady Coyotes lost their first game of 2016 to the Nashua Lady Porcupines last Saturday in Nashua. The score was 52-30.

The young Lady Coyotes will travel to Hays-Lodgepole tomorrow night to take on the Thunderbirds. The game starts at 4:30.

They will then travel west to take on the Chinook Sugarbeeters.

The Lady Coyotes were lead by Shontelle Talks Different who scored nine points and two treys. Christina Jaynes and Kailee Henry scored six points apiece. Shania KillEagle and Donna Dale scored four points apiece. Serena Cuts The Rope had one point.

The Lady Coyotes were outscored 9-12 in the first quarter. They won the second quarter by holding Nashua to six points while scoring eight points. The halftime score was 18-17 in favore of Nashua.

Early foul trouble forced Coach Hunter to sit a couple of starters, which ultimately affected the game.

Chinook would outscore Dodson in the third 8-5, but it was the fourth that ultimately sank the Lady coyotes’ efforts.

“I really think their coach was celebrating with them. They were encouraged and I think their momentum just got in our heads and we started playing poorly,” Coach Hunter said. “We started making simple mistakes, turning the ball over, walking and not contesting their shots.”

Another part of the issue was that the offensive strategy went out of the window, as the team abandoned their offensive game-plan.

“It ultimately hurt us in the end,” Coach Hunter said.

The Lady Coyotes would ultimately lose Kyla Racine and Shawnee KillEagle to foul-out.

The Lady Coyotes will have their hands full this week as they face Chinook and Hays-Lodgepole.

Hay-Lodgepole will feature a familiar face, Jessica Parker, who at one point was a strong contributor to Dodson’s team.

“She’s going to be tough to contend with because she’s a solid player,” Coach Hunter said.

They will likely have five players, according to Coach Hunter, which gives Dodson a solid game plan.

“Hopefully we can get them into some foul trouble is we can do what we need to do,” she said.

She doesn’t know much about Chinook, other than the fact that they have been solid against Dodson in previous meetings between the two teams.

“We’re definitely going to have to bring our A game this week, if we want to be successful,” Coach Hunter said.

That may be hard to do with their points leader, Shontelle Talks Different, set to miss a week with a knee injury.
