Coyotes drop game against Porcupines, but show signs of growth

The Dodson Coyotes lost a game to the Nashua Porcupines last Saturday night in Nashua. The score was 52-39.

This game started off competitive with Dodson scoring nine points while giving up 13.

The team would only score three points in the second quarter, while Nashua would come back and take the lead at the end of the second with 10 points. The score at halftime was 23-12.

Led by a six point effort by Jasper Doney in the third, Dodson came back into the flow of the game scoring 13 points while giving up only 12 points. The score at the end of the third was 35-25.

Dodson would put first their highest point total in the fourth, scoring 14 points however Nashua would score 16 points of their own.

Dodson was led by Jasper Doney who scored 10 points. Cleo Cole had nine points. Lane Walling scored six points. David Jaynes and Tyrese Messerly scored five points. Shaun Ball had four points.

Nashua won the game at the free throw line knocking down 10 of their 22 attempts, while Dodson only reached the line for five attempts. The Coyotes made two of those attempts.

The only major difference between the two teams was the second quarter scoring, other than that the young Coyotes put together a decent game, which could have been won.

"I was really excited after the game," Dodson Head Coach Wes KillEagle said. "I was pretty happy with the first quarter. The second I was disappointed because that's not the way this team plays. When the game was done and over with I forgot about the second quarter and I was happy."

Dodson nearly tied Nashua's second half output, falling short by one point, which is reason to be happy.

"We're moving in the right direction," Coach KillEagle said. "We're not going backwards anymore. We're looking for each other. Looking for the post and we had a good in and out game. It's all starting to come together."

The team will be busy this week as they travel to Hays-Lodgepole to face the Thunderbirds at 6:00 on Thursday. The team will then go to Chinook to take on the Sugarbeeters at 4:30 p.m.
