In Thursday Night's P.C. Showdown, the Coyotes tried to make it interesting as the Coyotes played the Mavericks tough in the first quarter. Both teams looked strong defensively as Dodson shocked North Country by taking an early 8-4 lead at the end of the first quarter.
Junior Cache Younkin led the Mavericks with twelve points. John McColly had 11 points. Wrangler Jones had five points. Layne Engel had three points. Logan McColly, Christian Menge and Austin Leatherberry scored two points each. Channing Mavencamp and Chris DePuydt had one point each.
"Defense was the main key," DePuydt said. "We didn't really get going on offense too well. We missed quite a few shots but we got some defense going, not letting them score too much."
North Country has had slow starts in most of their games so far this season, but has adjusted well to opposing teams in the second and third quarters. This night would be no different as they shut down Dodson in the second quarter, not allowing any points while they scored nine. The score at half-time was 13-8.
"In the first half we weren't really ready to go," Younkin said. "It took a little while for us to wake up but the halftime pep talk really got the ball rolling for us."
Things were only about to get worse for the young Coyotes as North Country put the hammer down, racking up 18 points in the third, while Dodson struggled to find rhythm and only put up
