Lady Mavericks defeat Dodson

The Lady Mavericks earned their second 3C district win last Thursday after taking down the Dodson Lady Coyotes 64-16 in Hinsdale.

The team was led by Tatum Moore who scored 34 points, 17 of which came in the first quarter.

Mickayla Johnson had 12 points in the win. Jada Sudbrack had 11 points. Casity Boucher and Payton Chopper had three points apiece. Kayleigh Cummings had two points. Bailey Funk and Halle Beil each had one point.

This game was a bit physical early, with the pride of the county on the line.

"They were very physical," Moore told the PCN.

Dodson was led by eighth grader Kailee Henry who scored seven points. Shontelle Talks Different scored five points. Kyla Racine and Shawnee KillEagle had two points apiece.

Defensively Dodson resisted the Lady Mavericks in the first quarter but North Country slowly pulled away, outscoring the Lady Coyotes 22-2 in the first quarter. The Lady Mavericks capitalized on Dodson's turnovers in the second and third quarters, outscoring Dodson 39-10 in that span.

"We were having fun instead of being so serious," Moore said. "It really opened us up. We started playing really intense and having fun. It was fun."

The win was an important one in terms of developing character and taking another conference win.

"It was pretty important for us being the first real game," Sudbrack said. "Our attitude was probably the key to our win. We were making mistakes on a team that we usually beat."

The Lady Mavericks defeated Glasgow 32-29 on Friday in Glasgow. Moore led the charge, scoring 15 points. Johnson had seven points. Sudbrack had four points. Funk and Boucher had three points apiece.
