MALTA-Leon Stephen Kovach passed away peacefully at the Hi-Line Retirement Center with family and friends on December 8, 2015 at the age of 73.
Memorial services were Saturday, December 12, at the Malta Lutheran Church. Interment of ashes with Military Honors will be in the Malta Cemetery at a different time. Condolences for the family may be left at http://www.kirkwoodfuneralhome.com.
Leon was born on October 16, 1942 in Malta, Mont., to John and Olive (Link) Kovach. Leon enjoyed being around family members, spending time on his computer and watching sports and Western movies on television. He attended grade school at South Wagner, after graduating from Malta High School he enlisted with the US Navy in 1967.
He was a member of the Malta Lutheran Church and especially enjoyed the Monday morning Adult Bible Study sessions.
He was employed by D&E Carpet and Janitorial Services for many years. When diagnosed with prostate cancer in 2001 he remained dedicated to fight his illness with the support of family and friends. He remained courageous even throughout his final months.
Leon is survived by his sister Lila Licht of Malta, Mont., Brother Arlen and sister-in-law Agnes Kovach of Billings, Mont., sister-in-law Barbra Darrah of Malta, Mont. and numerous nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his parents and Brother Darrell. Leon requested to be cremated. His ashes will be interred at the family plot at the Malta Cemetery.
On behalf of the family we would especially like to thank all the Doctors, Nurses and staff at the Phillips County Hospital and Family Health Clinic, HLRC, Great Falls Medical Clinic, Benefis Hospital in Great Falls, Mont., Veterans Administration and the Kirkwood Funeral Home for their excellent work and loving care.
Following the service a reception was held at the Malta Lutheran Church at Wicks Hall.
Memorial may be given to the Malta Lutheran Church or a charity of your choice.
