Oxarart wins wheelchair races at P.C. Fundraiser; Race raises $850

The 24th Phillips County Healthcare Fund-raiser held last Saturday at Malta's City Hall provided a night full of excitement for those in attendance. One of the more suspenseful events was a brand new event, the wheel chair race. The first round went to Greg Boos who was purchased by Hardware Hank for $350.

The second round of wheelchair races was full of suspense, and ultimately Lucky Bullet owner Dennis Oxarart caught some luck and won. He was purchased by Nate Simons for $250.

"It feels pretty good to be the first winner," "I'm somebody to shoot for next year so they better practice up," Oxarart said.

It didn't seem as though Oxarart knew the race would go his way.

"I'm kind of handicapped," Oxarart said. "I'm left handed. I didn't race that good, the other guys just raced bad."

Oxarart's humble claim was warranted as both of his opponents ran into a couple of obstacles during their runs

Stuart, an insurance agent with Phillips County insurance ran into a table and Farmers and Ranchers plumber Danny Paul Shores injured his hands in the race.

"He can't even sell collision insurance on himself." Oxarart joked. "I was racing a plumber and he dang near lost both thumbs."
