The fire department was called out Sunday evening to extinguish a fire at the old county jail building across the track on the north side.
The alarm was turned in at about 7:30, just the time when nearly all of the fire laddies were at church or the picture show, and most of them claim they did not hear the bell. A few of the faithful, however, responded and the fire was soon put out with the chemical engine. The fire was started by a tramp, who was thrown in the old jail during the afternoon for being drunk and disorderly, and he set fire to the furnishings of the interior. When the department arrived the prisoner easily made his escape.

The new mail contract foes into effect Nov. 16 between Dodson, Zortman and Landusky. B.W. Brockway, Mayor of Malta, business manager of the Democratic Party of Phillips County, City Editor of the Malta Call, owner of the city gas wells, would-be Postmaster of Malta and director of star mail routes, fails in his attempt to remove the mail contract from Dodson to Malta. If Dodson has anything else that Malta wants, all that Malta has to do is to send Brockway and his little gang after it and they are sure to get it – nit – Contributed in the Montana Idea.
EDITOR'S NOTE (also written in 1915) We desire to call attention of the editor of the Montana Idea that Mr. Brockway is also secretary of the Lower Milk River Water User's Association, Justice of the Peace and United States Commissioner. With these additions the above item will pass muster.

Decorations urged
The Malta Junior Chamber of Commerce is sponsoring a movement to instill community Christmas spirit by offering substantial prizes for the best decorated homes and yards during the holiday season. Complete plans have not been worked out, but it is believed the awards will be in cash.
The decorations committee has investigated Christmas outdoor decoration contests which are conducted every year in many cities throughout the state and has come to the conclusion that community spirit at Yuletide is heightened by such competitions. By the clever use of inexpensive lights, fir boughs, cardboard, paint and much ingenuity, novel outdoor decorations have been assembled.

Going, going, gone...
The Malta Community Church has acquired the former home of Thelma Stevens on Fourth Street East and is having it razed. According to Pastor Hal DeBoer, the lot combined with lot just east of it (which the church acquired several years ago) could be the future site of a new house of worship, replacing their aging structure located across the street to the east of the property.
"It's not going to happen tomorrow or next month," said DeBoer, "but the church is in the "planning stages" and building plans are being looked at."
