One Nation, Under God
Each year, Family, Career, and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) establishes a National Outreach Project with a partner organization. The goal of the National Outreach Project is to get each student actively involved to work toward a cause within the community. The Malta Chapter chose to be a part of the Lead 2 Feed movement by hosting a Halloween themed dinner on Wednesday, October 28.
We began to plan the event in August at a planning meeting. The goal was to establish a summarized calendar of the school year and the events we would like to arrange. We came up with a plethora of ideas, but the one that was most praised was a Halloween dinner. It struck the officers' attention and the members were immediately onboard.
September rolled around and planning was underway. We chose the date, determined what the meal would be, and assigned tasks for everyone. When October arrived, we began selling tickets. The goal was to sell five tickets each and I was amazed to see how many tickets the group had sold.
In the few days before the event, Mrs. Bruce's Family and Consumer Sciences (FCS) class and Alesha Wise assisted us in preparing the meals. They did an excellent job and we truly couldn't have done it without them.
On the day of the event, we met at noon to have a cake decorating contest. We each received a bag of frosting, piping bags, and 2 layers of cake. Once these supplies were given out, the ideas ran wild. When we were done decorating cakes, we began decorating the cafeteria and making appetizers.
The evening began with guests judging the spooky desserts made my FCCLA members while zombies offered "witch broom" and "spider egg" appetizers. The main meal consisted of Panzanella, several tasty salads, and a delicious spaghetti bake. To top everything off, tasty orange punch was served with the meal. During the meal, a slideshow revealing hunger facts was presented. At the end of the dinner, the best decorated cake and costume contest winners were announced and awarded.
The Malta Chapter FCCLA thanks you for showing support for our community. One hundred percent of the proceeds from the event went to the food bank. We raised $391.26 and 75 pounds of food for the Malta Food Bank.
