Malta loses 35-0 to Huntley Project
After an impressive 2015 season, the Malta Mustangs' season came to an end last Saturday afternoon at Mustang Field in Malta.
"I'm extremely proud of the young men on this team," Mustangs Head Coach Nick Oxarart told the PCN. "They were a great group to coach and they played hard for each other and enjoyed each other's successes. I think we exceeded many people's expectations. We fell short of a few of our goals but we accomplished many goals on our list. This loss in the quarter-finals is real disappointing but I think eventually we'll be able to look back on the rest of the season and be proud of the successes we did have. We will greatly miss the 12 seniors that will graduate this spring."
In the team's 35-0 loss against the Red Devils, Malta was led by senior running back Allen Williamson who had 111 yards on 24 attempts, including a 52 yard run that nearly went the distance.
"We did some good things against them, we just couldn't get a succession of plays to go our way and sustain any drives on them," Coach Oxarart said. "Allen had some nice runs and to get over 100 yards. On a defense as tough as Huntley's, it is something Allen and our offensive line should be proud of."
The Devils had constant pressure on junior Keenan Schipman who made his second start at quarterback and completed seven of 23 passing attempts for 85 yards.
"Huntley was the better team on Saturday," Coach Oxarart said. "Their size and speed played a big factor in the loss. We made too many mistakes and turnovers to have success against such a solid team. They are a well coached team and they were well prepared. They were a step ahead of us on many plays.
