MALTA- Ethel Schmoeckel, 89, passed away at her home on November 2, 2015 of natural causes with her family at her side.
The family will receive friends Thursday, November 5, 2015; 7 p.m. at Kirkwood Memorial Chapel. Funeral Services will be Friday, November 6, 2015; 11 a.m. at Malta Lutheran Church. Interment will be in the Malta Cemetery. Condolences for the family may be left at http://www.kirkwoodfuneralhome.com.
Ethel was born in Malta, Montana to Jesse and Mary (Dove) Nelson. She married James O'Brien in 1942 and they had two daughters Shirley and Linda, after eight years that marriage came to an end. Ethel worked in restaurants until 1950 when she married Harold Schmoeckel and became a stay at home wife and mother, they had one son Vince.
After they took over the family farm she worked side by side with her husband. She liked to embroidery, listen to western music, and dancing. She also became a collector and loved to go to rummage sales and auctions, until her health forced her to give it up. Then she took up reading, playing cards, and Bingo for pastime. She was a member of the Malta Senior Citizen Club, Malta Lutheran Church, and she was the oldest and longest continual member of the Malta V.F.W., Aux. Post 4067, also serving as President. Ethel and Harold were happily married for 65 years!
She is survived by her husband Harold of the family home, daughters Shirley Jones and Linda Brown, son Vince (Carolyn) Schmoeckel all of Malta as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren throughout the United States and Canada.
She was preceded in death by her parents; Sons-In-Law, Marvin L. Jones and Bruce Brown; half sister, Dorothy Fanning and half brother, Bill Fanning; Granddaughter Shauna Jones, and Great Granddaughter Lacy Jones.
