Nevrivy honored as outstanding Teacher and Librarian of the year

Malta High School and Malta Elementary School librarian Lynn Nevrivy was recently honored with a special award for her many, many years of promoting literacy throughout the community. In mid-October, over 400 school librarians and teachers met in Belgrade, Mont., for the Montana State Literacy Conference. Mrs. Nevrivy received the Pam Atchison Memorial Award as outstanding teacher-librarian of the year. The award was given by the Montana State Reading Council.

Mrs. Nevrivy has been with the Malta School District since 1987, first at the elementary school. In 2011 she also became the librarian at MHS. During this time she served on various reading councils and helped to coordinate literacy conventions.

Phillips County News readers who attended Malta Elementary School years ago may remember earning reading points towards special treats and prizes. Some readers were lucky enough to earn T-shirts or spin the Wheel of Good Fortune for an extra special treat.

When it was time for Dr. Seuss's 100th birthday, Mrs. Nevrivy and several school moms spent many hours sewing 230 large, striped Dr. Seuss hats for each child in the elementary school. Promoting literacy and the love of reading has always been most important to her.

Besides serving as a librarian for two schools, she also has been the MHS golf coach for the last fifteen years. Nevrivy is quick to comment, "I have been very lucky to receive such wonderful support from many Malta businesses. I do wish to thank them for their continued support of our reading programs." Congratulations, Lynn Nevrivy, on your special award.
