The Malta M-ettes placed 12th with 410 points as a team out of 24 teams fielding full teams for scoring. The top three teams receiving trophies this year were: 1. Big Fork 63 points; 2. Manhattan 88 points; and 3. Lincoln County (Eureka) 161 points. Seven other teams had less than the five needed to field a full team.
The overall winner of the highly competitive Class B girl's race was sophomore sensation Bryn Morley of Big Fork, who placed first with an impressive time of 17:26. Last year she settled for second behind her nemesis and sister Makena, who set an all class record. Junior Tamia Two Moons of Lame Deer placed second with a time of 19:06 and was also on the heels of Bryn last year placing third. Freshman Anya Young of Big Fork was one step behind Tamia and placed third with a time of 19:07.
The Malta M-ettes would find them at the Eagle Falls Golf Course, surrounded by thousands of spectators and other runners who were enjoying what was probably the most gorgeous fall day that I can remember for the last cross country meet of the season. Hardly a coat could be seen which is not typical of a late October day. The Class B girl's race was scheduled to be the last race of the day, the eighth and final race of what had been an exciting meet with talented runners and records being set.
We all knew that this race would be very competitive with the likes of the Morley girl who'd been competing with talented runners from the AA ranks like super athlete Annie Hill of Glacier High School in Kalispell who ran the AA race and shattered the course record set
