M-ettes take first in Harlem; State Meet in Great Falls Saturday

The Malta M-ette Cross-Country Team traveled west to Harlem for their final race of the regular season. It was a perfect day for racing with clear blue skies, temperatures that were a bit chilly and slightly breezy requiring a jacket if you were not a participant in the race. The green grass was still wet from the frost that blanketed the flat Harlem Golf Course when we arrived to walk the course prior to the race which would be a one and a half mile loop run twice. And it looked to be very competitive as we saw the buses come and we knew we would have to step it up a notch. Fifty-four runners made their way to the starting line, some nervous, others looking cold and still others realizing that this was the last race of the season.

"Runners to your mark," said the gunman as they took a step forward and then exploding with a dash as the gun went off, hopeful of running a personal best.

The eventual overall winner of the girl's 3 mile race at the Harlem Golf Course was Kim Parsell of Shelby who speedily ran the course with an impressive time of 18:46. Second place honors went to Sierra Summers of Wolf Point who ran in with a time of 20:01. And third place went to Malta's Mystic Striker who ran in with a time of 20:25.
