One Nation, Under God
Gun violence has been a big topic of discussion in the media and politics as of late. The Obama administration has been calling for tighter and tighter regulations again firearms. In my opinion, if everyone was allowed to carry a gun, there would be far fewer mass tragedies. I feel like the media blames the gun, but I blame the media. Think about it… the shooter is getting instant fame, regardless of how sick and tragic the acts they commit are. If we as a people were all armed, including teachers, I know the kids like Adam Lanza would never have the guts to try that. The common denominator with shooters like that is simple, they are worthless cowards, undeserving of the air they breathed.
Recently on campus at MSU there have been pushes towards allowing concealed carry on campus, and I don’t necessarily think it’s a bad thing. However, it also makes me uneasy knowing how many strangers would have guns around me. I also think that it would be a good thing for American gun manufacturers, who are already making record sales in the industry. If allowed, I know I would feel a lot more aware of how I approached people, you never know what someone considers aggressive.
Growing up in Montana means you’re familiar with a gun at a fairly young age. If you’re anything like me you’ve been killing gophers with .22’s your whole life. It’s a past-time, and more importantly, a right we’re entitled to as U.S. citizens. When you start messing with The Bill of Rights, you start mess-ing with the way our country is governed, which allows for future alterations. Today, it is gun violence and internet privacy, tomorrow it could be our rights to water, air, and life in general. I am opposed to big government running my life, it must be the way I was raised.
It’s been an amazing week in Montana, definitely one I will never forget. I’ve had some of the most unfortunate, and incredibly amazing things happen to me this week. Ask me about it sometime, I’d love to talk to you. As for you Malta, keep inspiring the world we live in, and we might just be able to save it someday! The world we live in can be dark and cruel, but as Gandhi said: “Be the change you wish to see in the world”. If we all do that, there won’t be much to worry about. Nothing is better than a country boy from Montana. Much Love,
Brandon
