Threatening phone call cancels school in Malta

PC Sheriff's Office determines call was a prank

On Wednesday, September 23, prior to classes beginning, a phone message was discovered on the voice mail at the Malta Elementary School in the form of gun violence. The Phillips County Sheriff's Office was called and the collective decision was made to cancel classes for the day.

Following already established protocol both the high school and elementary were placed into a lockdown and classes were canceled. Although the investigation is ongoing, the call was deter-mined to be a prank and classes resumed on the 24th, with added security precautions in place.

The decisions that were made by the School Administration and the Phillips County Sheriff's Office were made and will continue to be made with the sole purpose of providing safety to the students and staff of the schools. The investigation will continue utilizing local and outside re-sources to determine the origin of the call.
