100 years ago

September 23, 1915

Baby boy

Mr. and Mrs. Fred Messerly are the proud parents of a baby boy born last week.

The Saco Detachment of Company G will on October 29 give a big Halloween Masquerade. Plans for making this dance the crowning event of the season are underway, a big crowd will be prepared for.

Clifford Movold was in from his homestead last Saturday. He says he would rather farm than play ball any day.

Editor Johnson of the Malta Enterprise had the misfortune to lose his new touring car by fire Friday night. Johnson and a party of friends were hunting down the river when in some manner the car caught fire and was totally destroyed in minutes. The gas tank exploded and the flaming oil soon consumed the car. The party barely had time to get out and save their guns.

Seven carloads of horses passed through Saco the fore part of the week bound for the British Isles, from where they will be sent to the fighting line on the European continent.

September 26, 1940

Animal Circus coming to

High School

The Mason's Animal Circus will appear in Malta October 3, at the high school auditorium it was announced this week by Supt. J.H. Lesselyong.

A universal love of animals prompts the bringing of the unique assembly attraction. For who does not love to see an animal go thru his tricks?

The production is being brought by Harry and Marie Mason, widely known entertainers and members of the United State Zoological Society.

Little Rockies Jurisdiction to be transferred to BLM

Economy and increased efficiency in administrating public land in Montana was the subject of a study recently completed in Montana by the Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management. The proposal would involve approximately 38,400 acres of public land presently administrated by BLM in National Forests in Montana...approximately 28,000 acres will be transferred from the National Forrest to BLM and these lands include the Little Rocky Division of the Lewis and Clark National Forrest.

Friday night store opening before Christmas discussed

It was reported at the Malta Chamber of Commerce meeting that some Malta stores will stay open on Friday night until 9 p.m. between Thanksgiving and Christmas. Because of the division of opinion, it was emphasized that the opening was not a chamber-sponsored move, but each individual store should do as it wished in the matter.

Malta Kiwanis Celebrate 50

The Malta Kiwanis celebrated its 50th Anniversary last Tuesday with a picnic at Trafton Park. The club also dedicated and officially gave the City of Malta the two shelters in the park, which were built with funds raised through a radio-thon two years ago.

Penguins go to 9-0; down Saco

The Whitewater (Lady) Penguins established themselves as the team to beat in the 3C ranks this past weekend pushing their record to 9-0 and adding a win over in-county rival.

The Penguins defeated the Saco Panthers 48-43 and picked up a second conference win by beating Fraser 73-63.

Whitewater's Kerry Simonson was 9-of-13 from the line and Saco's Leann Pippin led all scorers with 24 points.

Yes – It rain on our parade...big time!

When the word went out the Shriners were flooding Malta, it wasn't meant to be taken literally.

However, shortly before the MHS Homecoming/Shriner Parade began the rains came...and came...and came, leaving nearly four inches of rain in two hours. The parade went on, but the (football) game was canceled because the field was flooded.
