The North Country Mavericks had an excellent weekend picking up a win against the Brockton Warrriors on Thursday night in Hinsdale and another win against Class B’s Harlem Wildcats in Harlem on Saturday night.
The scores in the Brockton game were 25-2, 25-9 and 25-8.
“Everybody got to play,” Coach Kathy Siroky told the PCN. “Everyone got some varsity time, which I’m happy with. We tried some new combinations and I really liked that.”
The team was led by Libero Payton Chopper, who had a game-high 13 aces. The team had 33 total.
“Payton had a stellar night, where she scored a lot of aces,” Coach Siroky said. “She did well back in the serving position.”
Mickayla Johnson had eight kills and one block in the win. Delaney Beil had eight assists and Casity Boucher had four digs.
The team’s win against Harlem was closer, but the Mavericks still won in three sets. The scores were 25-18, 25-18 and 25-21.
“We were down one player,” Coach Siroky said. “Tatum had a family wedding and so we put Casity (Boucher) in that outside position and she did really well.”
Known as a strong setter, Boucher added to the team’s set up effort.
“Between Delaney, Casity and Mickayla (hitting), we did really well on the front line, but we need to work on the back line as far as passing goes,” Coach Siroky said.
The team takes on the Nashua Porcupines on Thursday. The team was knocked out of the playoffs by Nashua last season, so the team has been anxious to avenge last season’s loss.
Their next game will be in Opheim on Saturday against the Lady Vikings.
