One Nation, Under God

After 17 hours of labor, Anderson wins AMX stock car race at 100th Annual Fair

Though the track for AMX racing has been the same for years, one man knew the track a little bit better than all other competitors at the 100th Annual Phillips County Fair event and it paid off.

Dodson's Travis Anderson had the AMX track looking amazing after an astounding 17 hours of prep work and for his hard work, he took home First Place in the Stock Class Championship last Saturday.

He was asked how it felt to win that race.

"Like usual," Anderson said with a smile. "At least I finally finished a race at the fair. My car is usually broke."

He explained that at the first turn he usually loses his front rims.

"This time it didn't happen," Anderson said. "Last year it didn't go so well."

Earlier in the interview, Anderson said he hated water. His disdain for the life giving substance may have been warranted.

"It took me 17 blankety-blank hours to pump all of this off," Anderson said. "Two days and 17 hours, with five pumps running."

Only a day or two before the fair, the fairgrounds were soaked and even flooded due to a two day shower that hit the Phillips County Area.

On top of Anderson's hard work pumping water out, water had to be reintroduced to allow tires to get grip during the event.

The car he drove was a "borrowed" 76 Monte Carlo that belonged to Ron Sunford, who moved to Kalispell.

"He left me the car and I've been running it ever since," Anderson said. "He told me, 'don't blow up the motor or take out the radiator.' I've already blown the motor up once."

The car had given him many issues in past racing days, but Anderson believes one component kept the car running that day.

"Fear," Anderson said. "I knew it was going to go to the crusher if it was going to quit on me."

The final results for the day:
