One Nation, Under God
Cathy Bear has been in Dodson since 1996 and taken care of the fairgrounds since 2001. "Berta Anderson came to my house in May of 2001 and saw how nice and green my grass was. At graduation time she asked me if I would be interested in being the yard maintenance person at the fairgrounds? I said, Sure. So I took on little spots at a time that year, then the next year more spots. Then I started taking on more mowing, more painting, more of the whole thing of the fairgrounds. There used to be no grass in the midway. They used to come and just hay it all up before fair. Now it's all green grass. There was about fourteen spots of debris; car parts, logs and just junk. Now there's no more stuff down there. Now you can just walk out of your camper and have golf course green grass." Cathy has also painted, replaced a roof and put up a new fence this year. The whole Bear family has been involved working on the fairgrounds, her husband Robert, her sons Anthony, Robert & Nick, her daughters Bobbie Jean & Raven and grandsons Exavier & Isaac who are 4 and 3. Cathy jokes and says we should call it the Bear Family Fairgrounds. She's on the Dodson Town Council getting the town all spruced up for the Dodson All School Reunion; mowing, painting, planting flowers and tearing down an old building and filling the hole in with dirt. She's been a 5th grade teacher for nine years at Lodgepole. One year they shut down Lodgepole and she taught at Hays but now she's back at Lodgepole.
From Phillips County a BIG Thank you to The Bears!
