M-ettes learn from collegiate coach and former standout libero
High School and Junior High Malta M-ette Volleyball players had the chance to hone their skills last week, as Montana State University Billings (MSUB) held their Satellite Volleyball Camp at Malta High School last Wednesday and Thursday.
"I actually love it," said M-ette Head Coach Julia Tatafu. "I get the opportunity to learn right along with the girls. These are college coaches; their knowledge of the game is obviously more than what I have."
The camp was led by MSUB Volleyball Assistant Coach Lianne Vicchio, who just joined the Yellowjackets last February after coaching at Montana State University Bozeman last season. She was helped by former MSU Bozeman standout Kasey Schlatter, who was the team's libero.
"The MSUB Head Coach Lisa Axel has built a relationship with the Head Coach (Tatafu) here and we've been doing it in the past years, so we decided to come out again," Coach Vicchio, who also coached at her Alma Mater California State – Stanislaus a NCAA Division II school.
Coach Tatafu is in her third year with the M-ettes and for every off-season that she's coached, she has invited MSUB to host the camp in Malta.
"I see different things than these coaches do and it helps because maybe what I'm telling our girls isn't clicking but we could get a couple of new coaches in and they'll say something different and it clicks," Coach Tatafu said.
At the time of camp in Malta, the two women crew had only been to Circle this summer. Their next stop will be Chester.
"For us, it's just a great way to get the community involved," Coach Vicchio said. "For us it's kind of a community service
