One Nation, Under God
The children and their families of Edmund and Gloria Mortenson hosted a reception for them at the Dodson Lutheran Church to celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday. They are the parents of Paul, of the family farm and Twila Jones of Belt, and Evan Jones and Rachel Mortenson are the son & daughter-in-law. They also have 6 grandchildren, 4 boys and two girls. Edmund and Gloria were married August 1, 1965 in North Dakota and have since resided on the Mortenson farm north of Dodson/Wagner until moving into Malta. Relatives and friends enjoyed an afternoon of visiting and reminiscing despite the extreme heat. Sid and Merrimae Solberg were here for several days, celebrating their own 50 th anniversary on June 26th and attending Saturdays gathering. Some of the other relatives coming from a distance were Jim and Kelly Solberg, Cut Bank, Ralph and Sheri Solberg of Billings and grandchildren of Gloria’s sister, Sarah, Jacob and Nick Perchal of Wahpeton, North Dakota. Congratulations Edmund and Gloria.
Polly Solberg attended the Gospel Jamboree on Saturday evening and again at the Elim Lutheran Church on Sunday morning.
Edward and Polly Solberg were guest hosts to Steve Quam, a hale and fit 69 year old from South Carolina who is making his third trip across the nation by bicycle for Parkinson’s Disease Awareness after finding out seven & one half years ago that he also has Parkinson’s. Steve made his first trip in 2010, then a year later rode his motorcycle 16,000 miles round trip to Fairbanks, Alaska. In 2012 he rode his bicycle from the East Coast to the West Coast and then in 2013 motorcycled his bicycle to Colorado and bicycled the Copper Triangle there. In 2014 he started again but suffered a vehicle accident in Havre, Montana and had to go back. On June 20th Steve started out from Havre to complete the 800 miles he had to give up in 2014. Mr. Quam left Bellingham, Washington on May 30 to reach Havre on the correct date and plans to arrive in Minneapolis,MN. by August 28th to be with his mother on her 102nd birthday. Places to spend a night to rest in a pleasant atmosphere and have a meal are lined up ahead of time and are greatly appreciated. On Sunday he had spoke at the Methodist Church in Chinook. Steve stated that all expenses for the trips are absorbed by him and his wife Jeanne so that all donations given him on his trips are given entirely for the Parkinson’s Cause. Steve stated he was part of a large following that is working to find out more about Parkinson’s and how it can be treated. Steve can be reached for more information at: [email protected].
There was a Lunch and Learn sponsored by the Council on Aging at the Little White Church on Thursday with Laura Baus, with the MT Dept. of Public Health & Human Services in Helena speaking on older adults and their need for immunizations. And the effect some diseases make on older people. Dora Henry and Polly Solberg attended.
Birthday greetings are sent to Pete James and Bobby Voice.
Handle them carefully, for words have more power than atom bombs.
