One Nation, Under God

Unhappy with policy changes at the PCN

Dear Editor,

I am writing to say that Bonnie and Curtis Starr deserve praise in the way they handled obituaries and death notices in the Phillips County News. They were always willing to make accommodations as best they could even as late a 5 p.m. Tuesday so that families and friends were able to read it in the Wednesday newspaper.

The new owners of the PCN make no accommodations what so ever if they do not have it by Monday at noon it will not be on the obit page and if it is received at noon on Tuesday it will not be in that week’s paper at all. Also now with the price increase to $80 with picture and $75 without; this is going to cause some hardship for some loved ones of the deceased. Curtis and Bonnie Starr never charged for local obituaries.

When someone passes away it doesn’t happen on a schedule. They can pass at any time. Families like to have their loved ones obituary and time and place of services in the newspaper as it is impossible to notify everyone individually before the services. A little understanding of these circumstances could go a long way for the people of this community!
