One Nation, Under God
This past Monday, in honoring our veterans on Memorial Day, we kicked off a summer which promises tons of fun and lots of events for the staff here at the Phillips County News to cover.
The summer of 2014 hit me like a ton of bricks. I was not prepared for the amount of events that would occur last summer in Phillips County.
As you are well aware, I was transplanted from the mountains of Mineral to the Prairie of Phillips last year and I was not prepared for the volume of events that took place in my new home. A summer in Mineral County as the publisher of a newspaper meant many hours fishing or floating the Clark Fork River, plenty of frosty adult beverages and very little to cover in the way of events.
That is not the case here and I am excited for the list of 2015 events that I will soon be covering for this newspaper.
The weekend of June 6 features a slew of cool events to attend -- First State Car Show, PCMS first races, the first races in Dodson and a concert featuring Hell's Bells, an all female AC/DC tribute band.
As luck would have it, I will be gone that week and Pierre will be picking up my slack.
I will, however, hit the ground running upon my return and the first event that comes to mind -- though not first on the calendar -- is the 100th Phillips County Fair starting in the end of July. I can smell the cheeseburgers, BBQ ribs and fried Oreos as I type (try it, it's easy.)
I am also looking forward to heading back out to Zortman for the Fourth of July, Boots and Saddles events at Trafton Park, The Milk River Gospel Jamboree and Fun Days in Saco...and those are the events that come immediately to mind.
The reason for this convoluted column is that as many events as we covered in the Summer of 2014, I know we missed some (though not purposely.) My request to you, dear readers, is to keep this staff informed of your upcoming events. We will preview and cover as many as we can, but if we don't know about it, chances are slim that it will be covered.
Don't hesitate to let us know, no matter how big or small, of an event you think is newsworthy. We are ready for summer.
Thanks for reading and Aloha.
