Headline: Population of Malta takes zoom upward
Preliminary figures on the 1940 census for Malta show a marked increase in the local population during the past decade.
Figures furnished show a population of 2,193 as compared with 1,342 given in the census of 1930.
This increase of 851 persons is only for the part of the community actually within the city limits. City Clerk T. J. Larson believes that a count of people living just outside the city limits yet within the area commonly accepted as a part of the community would add several hundred more to the total.
