Horrible weather conditions did not freeze Stiles, M-ettes
The Malta M-ettes track team was only seven points away from taking the top spot in the North-East B Divisional last Saturday.
The track conditions weren't ideal as athletes, coaches and fans braved the wind, rain and 45 degree weather.
The conditions didn't stop Malta from scoring 133 points at the meet. Glasgow had a total of 139.33 points.
No athlete was as dominant as sophomore M-ette Sophia Stiles, who took first place in all four of her individual events at the meet.
Stiles won the long jump after posting a leap of 17 feet, 1.50 inches. She will have the chance to defend her 2014 triple jump title after posting a length of 35-10.25 at the Divisional Meet and taking first by over two feet. She swept the hurdles events by posting a time of 15.57 in the 100 hurdles and 47.85 in the 300 hurdles, which was a new best.
Marley Manoukian took fourth place in the 300 hurdles with a time of 53.71.
Last week, Jada Nicholson said she wanted to take first in the high jump after taking second in last year's divisional meet. She didn't let the terrible weather weigh her down as she won the event after clearing 4-08. Hailey Nicholson also placed in the event, taking second after clearing 4-06.
Darby Schye dominated shot put, taking first in the event with a throw of 38-04, which was her first throw in the event.
Kaitlin Smith also placed in shot put, taking second with a throw of 36-04.50.
Smith took first in javelin with a throw of 117-05 and Mary Grace Kalal took third with a throw of 93-11.
The M-ettes took three places in discus. Schye took second with a throw of 88-01, Kalal took third in the event with a throw of 87-11 and Shay Garfield took fifth with a throw of 82-02.
Malta took third in both the short and long relay. The short relay team, consisting of Manoukian, Schye, Smith and Stiles posted a time of 54.10. The long relay team, consisting of Manoukian, Kalal, H. Nicholson and Schye posted a time of 4:39.17.
Riley Mortenson punched her ticket to state not once, but twice. She took fifth in the 1600 with a time of 6:17.58 and sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:43.34.
