Dodson dancers dazzle at HLRC

Dodson High school Students Wozek Chandler and Kyla Racine made their way to the Hi-Line Retirement Center in Malta last Thursday to perform three dances for the center's residents and left each of the seniors with clapping hands and smiling faces.

"The dancing was wonderful, the dresses were spectacular and the music was very pretty," said resident Ruby Shoemaker. "It was a nice way to spend the morning."

"It was great, great, great," Virginia Eskildsen added. "I would love to see them at the Phillips County Fair this year. I really enjoyed the efforts. It was very nice."

Chandler and Racine made one costume change during the three dances and Dodson High School teacher Wendy Hopkins explained that two girls did much of the sewing and bead work on their dresses on their own. She said that both Chandler and Racine have been dancing, she suspects, since they were old enough to walk.

Chandler, who was to graduate from Dodson High School on the following day, addressed the crowd and answered a few of their questions after the performance. She admitted that it was easier to dance in front of the crowd of nearly 50 than it was to talk in front of them and thought that being able to dance at graduation rather than give the Salutatorian speech would also be easier.

"That would be nice," she said. "But I don't think it will happen."

Racine said that she and Chandler dance at about 10-to-15 events each year and added that her favorite part of performing is being in front of the crowd.

"It went really well today and I enjoyed dancing for everybody," Racine said.
