The District 3C Track Meet is in the books, and many athletes from Phillips County have made it to the next stage, the Eastern C Divisionals in Glasgow being held tomorrow.
All four Whitewater Penguins are in the mix as well as Dodson's Trevor Banyai and Saco's Chandler Pippin.
Whitewater's Jeret Warren has been a strong contributor for the school's track team, making it into divisionals all four years of his high school career.
"It makes me feel accomplished that I've been able to do it all four years of high school," Warren said. "It's kind of something not many kids get to do."
Warren took second in both the 800 meter run and 1600. His times were 2:17 and 5:02 respectively. He admitted the cold didn't affect him that day.
"The wind a little bit but I'm used to the cold from cross country," Warren said.
Warren also took fifth in the 3200 with a time of 11:56.
He is friends with Lane Nickels of Nashua, a junior, who swept all three distance events at the meet.
"We've been running together since third and second grade, so every time we run against each other it's been a fun competition to see who can outlast each other," Warren said.
Warren was also the anchor leg of the long relay, which finished second at the meet with a time of 4:15.1.
Trey Simanton has been a pleasant surprise for the team and he continued his strong freshman season by placing in both the 110 and 300 hurdles and the triple jump, which is an event he tried only one week prior.
Simanton posted a time of 18.0 in the 110 hurdles and took third. He had a time of 50.0 in the 300 hurdles.
Simanton had a length of 16-08 in the long jump and took third.
Coyote Trevor Banyai had a length of 16-07 in the long jump and took fourth.
"It feels decent I guess," Banyai said about placing in long jump. "Long jump is not really my thing; I'm more focused on the high jump."
Banyai had a goal of 5-08 for high jump, but it was a tough day for jumpers, due to cold wind gusts.
Cody Scheffelmear and Banyai both cleared 4-10 in the high jump but
