A Haiku for a buddy, seeking the crossword lady and other house cleaning

This week, Phillips County lost a good guy as JB passed away after a battle with lung cancer. JB, thanks for being such a good friend to me in the short time we knew each other.

Crossword questions

I know you are out there.

At least one of the Phillips County News faithful readers completes the Phillips County News Crossword on a weekly basis, I just can't remember who.

For those of you who don't do the crossword, or even look at it, you should. Each week it has no less than three local clues taken from the previous week's newspaper.

For that one person I know who finishes it each week, I have some questions.

Is it too hard or easy? Is it readable? Should the puzzle be bigger or smaller? Should there be more clues or less?

I have never completed a crossword in my life, but I do put it together each week so I would like any input on this weekly feature. Please send your comments to me at [email protected]. Mahalo.

Seeking info on the first Malta High School Graduating Class

While searching through old editions of the newspaper in order to compile this month's Memories feature, I stumbled upon the first ever graduating class from MHS in 1915.

The three young women were:

Miss Lillie Davidson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Davidson of Wagner, and old time residents of this section; Miss Mildred Wilson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Wilson, who have been residents of Malta for some time past; Iola Tressier, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Tressler of this city. (See the brief write up on page 5A.) I would like to write a feature story on these three ladies so if you have any information on them, are related to them or know someone who is, send me an email or give me a call at 654-2020.

That is all for this week. See you again next week.

Thanks and aloha.
